Hussain Sagar Lake is one of the largest
man-made lakes situated in Hyderabad. Renowned for its monolith of Lord
Buddha placed right at the center of the lake, the place is famously
known as a Tank Bund, a popular spot of tourist attraction.Hussain Sagar Lake, Asia's largest
artificial lake, has 3 km long dam wall and connects the twin cities of
Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Serving as a major tourist attraction for
the city, it is also popular for other activities such as fish
culturing, water sports and boat rides etc. However, the major
attraction of the lake is a monolithic Buddha statue situated right at
the heart of the lake. Installed after years of successive disaster, the
statue was inaugurated by Dalai Lama in the year 1993. You can reach
the center of the lake by regular ferry service for which the tickets
are available at the lake itself.
Best time to visit Hussain Sagar Lake : The best time to visit the
Hussain Sagar Lake is between the months of June and February. The
weather is pleasant with a cover of clouds and occasional drizzling.
How to Reach Hussain Sagar Lake : You can easily reach the
Hussain Sagar Lake by various modes of local transportation such as
auto-rickshaw, bus and taxis which are easily available in all parts of
the city.
History of Hussain Sagar Lake : Hussain Sagar Lake was built
in 16th century by Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah in appreciation of Hussain
Shah Wali, who cured him from a disease. Constructed on a tributary of
Musi River in 1562, today it is flocked by tourists and visitors in
large number.
Architecture of Hussain Sagar Lake : The Lake with a 3 km long dam
wall was artificially made by Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah. Covering an area
of 5.7 square kilometres, the lake is fed by River Musi. A 16 m high
monolithic Buddha statue is erected right at the centre of the lake. The
statue weighing 350 tonne is entirely crafted out of white granite and
is placed upon the "Rock of Gibralter".
Facts about Hussain Sagar Lake : Hussain Sagar Lake is the
largest artificial lake in the Asia connecting the twin cities of
Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Standing at the Tank Bund, you can see an
outline of the lake done by lights appearing as diamond studded
necklace. Thus, the road is also known as the necklace road.
Water sports at Hussain Sagar Lake : Different kind water sports
and boating is a regular feature of the lake. Sailing and yachting are
among the most active clubs here and attracts a large crowd during
annual sports meet from all over the country.
